      Watch your polarity – These harness components are well made, but errors make a polarity reverser a necessity. Unfortunately the kit does not include one. The test light functions like a reverse polarity indicator, rather than verification of a good hookup. In normal 12v negative ground systems, the red is +, and connects to the center of the cigar lighter. Almost everything comes out backward, so keep your meter handy and verify before you plug in. The kit does give you many different hookup possibilities, but beware.

      Put your solar collector where the sun shines – I installed a solar float charging system on my boat for winter storage. It takes the hassle of removing and storing marine batteries over the winter. You see more and more boats stored on the hard with solar panels. The problem is that the cable to the panel is short and people cut holes in their cover to get to the sun.
