The USB one kept failing so I thought a cigarette lighter style would work better and I was right – I replaced a twin USB outlet on my motorcycle with this cigarette style outlet. The USB one kept failing so I thought a cigarette lighter style would work better and I was right. The problem with the USB style is they are always drawing power so you have to have them hooked to the ignition circuit. The cigarette style is easier because you can hook it up direct to the battery with the fused line and it draws no power unless you have something plugged in. I use it to power my handlebar mounted action camera.

One small design flaw – I like the convenience of plugging into the factory harness but the receptical end isn’t very deep and the plug keeps slipping out whenever I hit a rough trail. I took a couple zip ties, looped them around the wires just past the plugs then connected the two ties together with another zip tie. It works but I was hoping not to have to rig something together. I may just cut the plugs off and permanently attach the wires, kind of defeating the need for this wire. Silver lining is that by plugging into the wire harness the accessories shut off with the ignition switch.

Been a year now running between the fuel tank frame then under the seat plugged in to my other 10 gauge extension. Tight spots here and there but still good as new and works fine.

It worked well on a trip when, due to cold weather overnight, my tires needed to be inflated a little bit. So the extension cord allowed me to take care of that using the bike’s battery/electrical system.
