Great replacement – My cigar lighter socket was bad in my Lexus RX300. This new socket was better built than my old one. You may need to file the original mounting hole as the new socket has a treaded locknut. So, other than a little tweaking, it will work well as a charging port.

works fine. – only thing about this item i did not like was that it has a blue indicator light inside. if light is on, unit is working, if not, it has no power. Normally this would be a positive. But I installed this into a tractor that does not get used for months at a time. since unit is wired directly to the battery, the indicator light drains the battery after a few weeks. to resolve this issue, i wired the unit with a toggle switch that I flip to turn the unit off when not in use.

Lights up, looks nice, it works….. – Needed a replacement for my boat. This one lights up, it looks nice and it works. Three things the old one didn’t do anymore. I wasted some time on the install because I did a lot of other wiring on the boat at the same time, so when it didn’t work I didn’t realize right away that it was defective and checked all my other work before noticing it was a defective socket. The positive terminal had a bad solder joint causing it to not work, I bought another and returned the defective one and works as it should. I couldn’t say if it’s a bad design or not as sometimes things just happen. Pay attention to the diameter of the unit though because this one was larger than the old one so I had to enlarge the hole. To do that I used a hole saw and to keep it centered I used the old receptacle bolted in the center of the hole saw in place of the usual drill bit. Because I was going through plastic I cut the hole slowly and carefully and the installation looks flawless. I can now charge my phone or spotlight in the boat again. So far, even with the small hiccup that cost me a little time, I am pleased with the product.

It is what it is which was what I wanted – Let’s face it, nothing glamorous about a cigarette lighter socket, but if it happens to be that is what you want, then function is what you are after. This does what I needed – allowed me to put a 12v socket into a box that holds a battery, and that I can plug 12v appliances into. And remember, how long things last depends on how you use them. Use any tool with the respect it deserves, and you will find even 20 year old Harbor Freight tools work as good as shiny new ones from Lowes. This is plastic, if I am rough as hell with it, I can break it in no time. I expect to be using this for the next 10 years at least.
